History of IIT's logo

2018 marks the 20th anniversary of the II&T logo.

The IIT logo was inspired in September 1998 by the then newly elected Director of the Institute, Stelios C. A. Thomopoulos, to mark the Institute's new vision for a rising course towards excellence.

  • The momentum and the jumping of the feline refer to the dynamic and upward course of the Institute with its continuous presence in the research and implementation of research and technological projects.
  • The upward trend of the original letters of the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications (IΠT) renders, as a symbolism, the overcoming of the obstacles that the Institute and its researchers have to face and overcome in all aspects of research and everyday life.
  • The transformation of the feline into the initials of ΙΠΤ in an upward direction signifies the vision for the Institute's continuous ascendant course.

The logo (as shown in the third icon), hand-drawn on a piece of paper, was given to the graphic artist, and the rest is now history.

P.S. 20 years ago animation (especially in Greece) was rare. Today it is one of the competitive competences of IIT. I would like, then, to thank my associate Mr. Panagiotis Tsimpiridis for the excellent animation of the history of our logo. I also thank my associate Mr. Kostas Stamatakis for the integration of the logo and its history on our Institute website.
