IIT Launches Inspiring New Podcast Series: First Episodes Spotlight Newly Tenured Women Researchers
“Tell us your [SCIENCE] story” is a podcast series by the Institute’s Human Resources Unit, featuring inspiring conversations with scientists and researchers. Through personal stories and professional experiences, we explore the journey of experts in various fields, uncovering the challenges, myths, and breakthroughs in the world of science. The first episodes proudly spotlight IIT’s newest tenured women researchers, celebrating their achievements and amplifying their voices in the scientific community.
On Thursday, April 25, 2024, our Institute’s working group for equality and inclusion organised an open discussion on disability, accessibility and workplace inclusiveness. We were honored to have Dr. Maria Skoularidou, a Research Fellow at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and a founding member of {Dis}Ability in AI and Women in Data Science and Statistics at the Royal Statistical Society, as our special guest.
IIT celebrates its female Scientists on International Day of Women & Girls in Science
The International Day of Women and Girls in Science was adopted in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and is celebrated on 11 February every year to promote the full and equal access and participation of women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. On this day, the Institute if Informatics & Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos, honours female researchers’ achievements and supports gender equality & female empowerment in Science. NCSR Demokritos presents its Gender Equality Plan with special invited speaker
On Monday 21 November 2022, the Gender Equality Committee of NCSR Demokritos presented online to all NCSR Demokritos personnel the Gender Equality Plan (GEP)for 2022-2024. Invited speaker at the event was Prof. Maria Stratigaki, Αssociate Professor of Social Policy at Panteion Universityand President of the Greek Association of Academic Women (ELEGYP).
First Committee meeting for the Centre’s Gender Equality Plan (GEP)
Moving forward with the implementation of the Gender Equality Plan (GEP), a policy of NCSR Demokritos approved in May 2022, already adopted by the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications, the first pilot event, a meeting between women researchers from all NCSR Demokritos’ Institutes, took place physically on Friday, July 8, 2022 at the “Themis Paradelis” Seminar Room of the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (INPP). The aim of this gathering was the discussion of issues in regard to gender equality and inclusivity and whether the women researchers have ever experienced difficulties and inconveniences in their work environment caused by their gender.
