Ημερίδα υποψήφιων διδακτόρων ΙΠ&Τ

Την Τρίτη 19 Ιουνίου 2012 οργανώσαμε ημερίδα για τους υποψήφιους διδάκτορες του Ινστιτούτου Πληροφορικής &Τηλεπικοινωνιών (ΙΠ&Τ), όπου εκτός από τις σύντομες παρουσιάσεις από κάθε υποψήφιο διδάκτορα, υπήρξαν και παρουσιάσεις από μετα-διδακτορικούς ερευνητές του ΙΠ&Τ.

I welcome you to the first issue of the IIT newsletter for 2012. Please, have a look at the activities concerning our participation to large conferences and working groups, and dissemination of our technologies and research results. Be aware also of the new projects started the last 4 months and visit the general annual meeting event of IIT.

My congratulations to Dr. N. Stamatopoulos and his supervisor Dr. B. Gatos for being awarded the best PhD thesis in the competition organized by ITI of CERTH.

Optitrans: antidote for city traffic

Following its successfull penetration in the Greek public transport community, OptiTrans was featured in the news portal Pathfinder. Pathfinder is one of the most visited news Greek web portals and covers a wide range of fields. OptiTrans was featured in the field of technology-sciences in the rubric "Technologein". Mr. Rizopoulos, journalist and director of "Technologein" visited the IIT premises, was informed about the OptiTrans, and made interview with Dr. Stelios Thomopoulos and the OptiTrans Staff.

MNL participates in the FIArch Working Group

MNL (Media Networks Laboratory) researchers are involved in and contributing to the Future Internet Reference Architecture (FIArch) Working Group of the European Commission, which is working towards architectural recommendations for the Internet of the Future. MNL participated to the 3rd FIArch workshop (Brussels, Feb 22, 2012), which finalised a document on the proposed Design Principles for the Future Internet.

The fourth IIT newsletter, with news about participation to large conferences and working groups, and dissemination of our technologies and research results, has been sent out!

Third Pascal Challenge on Large Scale Hierarchical Text classification (LSHTC3)

We are pleased to announce the 3rd edition of the Pascal Large Scale Hierarchical Text Classification (LSHTC) and ECML/PKDD 2012 Discovery Challenge. The LSHTC Challenge is a hierarchical text classification competition, using large datasets. This year's challenge focuses on interesting learning problems like multi-task and refinement learning.

Net Media Lab: European E-Learning award for the LDV ENFORA project in 2010

The project "Innovation Transfer of DEDALOS project, for teaching English as a second language to deaf people, whose first language is the Sign Language, via e-learning tools" (ENFORA) was awarded the European e-learning award in 2010.

Net Media Lab: An article about Open Distance Learning in a report to the Australian Government (Department of Education, Science and Training) in 2007.

The article was:

Drigas, A.S., Koukianakis, L.G., Glentzes, J.G., An ODL system and Virtual Class for the electrical engineering
sector. - and the report is entitled "E-learning within the building and construction and allied trades" by Lin Thompson and Reece Lamshed.

Net Media Lab: An article about the support of disabled people in a report of the USA Congress to the President of the USA in 2007.

The article that was included was:

A.S. Drigas, J. Vrettaros, D. Kouremenos, "E-learning Environment for Deaf people in the E-Commerce and New Technologies Sector", 2004.

The report was entitled: "Empowerment for Americans with Disabilities: Breaking Barriers to Careers and Full Employment".

Under its congressional mandate, the National Council on Disability NCD is charged with the responsibility to gather information on the development and implementation of federal laws, programs, and initiatives that affect people with disabilities.
