A new H2020 European Research project kicked off for SKEL Lab in Eindhoven, The Netherlands on 6-7 March 2018. BigMedilytics (which stands for Big Data for Medical Analytics) is a big partnership between 35 organisations from throughout Europe.
During its 38 months of work the partnership will create a system by using health records of more than 11 million patients across 8 countries and data from other sectors such as insurance companies and the public sector.
iASiS project coordinator Dr. George Paliouras gave a speech on March, 8 titled Big data for Precision Medicine - The iASiS project at ELSEVIER's headqurters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Dr.Paliouras spoke about the goal of iASiS in turning large amounts of valuable data into a robust evidence base to help pave the way for personalised treatment approaches.
Dr Homer Papadopoulos is coordinating of 135 European Organizations of the Action Group A1 Synergy on “Information technology and adherence in ageing population with chronic diseases and polypharmacy”.
In this CoP, in session about “Digital transformation of health and care for Active and Healthy Ageing in Europe" Dr Papadopoulos presented NCSR Demokritos' developments in the area of ICT in projects for Health and AAL. He also explained how REMOTECARE and HEALTHNET projects address the challenge: Adherence to medical recommendations and treatments by elderly patients.
MSc Data Science participants celebrated the new year by cutting the traditional New Year cake at NCSR Demokritos premises.
On Friday 12 January 2018, Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis, member of the MSc Committee from NCSR Demokritos, welcomed students and teachers from both institutions and performed the traditional new year cake cutting.
Student Anna Spyropoulou found this year's lucky charm and was the winner of the prize.
19-22 February: the final field test of the H2020 project FLYSEC took place with great success in the Luxembourg Airport from 19-22 Feb. FLYSEC system and applications were deployed & tested engaging actual LuxAirport Security Personnel.
SKEL Lab participated at the the 3rd Conference for Technology by Naftemporiki which took place in Athens, on Thursday 25 January 2018 entitled Artificial Intelligence: Blessing or Threat?
Researcher Dr Giorgos Giannakopoulos was amongst the panelists of the Debate: Fears and Hopes.
The new H2020 project DARE kicked off in Athens at coordinator NCSR “Demokritos” premises on 29 - 30 January 2018. DARE which stands for Delivering Agile Research Excellence has 9 partners from 6 countries who all met each other for the first time and began organising work for the months to follow.

Κατά τη διάρκεια της εκδήλωσης έγινε απολογισμός εργασιών του έτους 2017 και ανακοίνωση των νέων ερευνητικών έργων που ξεκινούν το 2018. Η παραδοσιακή Πρωτοχρονιάτικη πίτα μοιράστηκε στους παρευρισκόμενους με το φλουρί φέτος να "πέφτει" στην ομάδα του κ. Αναστάσιου Κούρτη (Media Networks Lab - MNL).
