6th BioASQ Challenge in progress

The 6th BioASQ Challenge started on February 2018 and will last till May 2018. The BioASQ challenge consists of two different tasks : Task 6a on large-scale biomedical semantic indexing and Task 6b on biomedical semantic QA. Research groups from all over the world participate in the challenge. More information can be found here: http://bioasq.org/participate/challenges

Project iASiS presented in two events in Brussels during April.

Dr. Grigoris Tzortzis travelled to Brussels, Belgium to present the H2020 iASiS project in two events.
On April, 23 he took part at a closed meeting in the frame of the OpenMinTED (OMTD) project where stakeholders discussed the various available initiatives and their roadmap options.

On April, 24 the project was presented to a full room during the Open Research Data to Support Sustainable Health Initiatives workshop.

Ariadne’s Journey - A projection mapping production inspired by the world of Knossos

"Ariadne's Journey" is an audio-visual experience, which combines innovative techniques of projection mapping with 2D/3D animation, while set to an original musical score. Between cinematic narrative and installation art, viewers of all ages are invited to experience an adventure in three dimensions.

Workshop on Big Data and Deep Learning Techniques with speakers from CERN

Analysis of large datasets are crucial in Particle Physics, just like in Nuclear Physics, Cosmology and other Physical Sciences, for interpreting results of ongoing (LHC) and future experiments.

Over the last few years, rapid progress in AI have enabled our smartphones, social networks, and search engines to understand our voice, recognize our faces, and identifiy objects in our photos with very good accuracy. These dramatic improvements are due in large part to the emergence of a new class of machine learning methods known as Deep Learning.

ο Δρ Παπαδόπουλος Όμηρος συμμετείχε στο 14ο Πανελλήνιο Συνέδριο της Ελληνικής Γεροντολογικής και Γηριατρικής Εταιρείας όπου παρουσίασε την συμβολή του ΕΚΕΦΕ Δ στην ανάπτυξη τεχνολογιών πληροφορικής και συστημάτων ΙοΤ, συμπεριλαμβανομένων και συστημάτων αυτόνομης διαβίωσης υποβοηθούμενης από το περιβάλλον (AAL). Επίσης παρουσίασε τα έργα HealthNET και RemoteCARE στα οποία συμμετέχει ως εταίρος το ΕΚΕΦΕ Δ - ΙΠΤ.

New H2020 project BigMedilytics kicks-off for SKEL Lab

A new H2020 European Research project kicked off for SKEL Lab in Eindhoven, The Netherlands on 6-7 March 2018. BigMedilytics (which stands for Big Data for Medical Analytics) is a big partnership between 35 organisations from throughout Europe.

During its 38 months of work the partnership will create a system by using health records of more than 11 million patients across 8 countries and data from other sectors such as insurance companies and the public sector.

Project iASiS presented at ELSEVIER headquarters

iASiS project coordinator Dr. George Paliouras gave a speech on March, 8 titled Big data for Precision Medicine - The iASiS project at ELSEVIER's headqurters in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Dr.Paliouras spoke about the goal of iASiS in turning large amounts of valuable data into a robust evidence base to help pave the way for personalised treatment approaches.

6th Conference of Partners of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing

Dr Homer Papadopoulos is coordinating of 135 European Organizations of the Action Group A1 Synergy on “Information technology and adherence in ageing population with chronic diseases and polypharmacy”.
In this CoP, in session about “Digital transformation of health and care for Active and Healthy Ageing in Europe" Dr Papadopoulos presented NCSR Demokritos' developments in the area of ICT in projects for Health and AAL. He also explained how REMOTECARE and HEALTHNET projects address the challenge: Adherence to medical recommendations and treatments by elderly patients.
