Experimental Evaluation of Representation Models for Content Recommendation in Microblogging Services

Micro-blogging services constitute a popular means of real time communication and information sharing. Twitter is the most popular of these services with 300 million monthly active user accounts and 500 million tweets posted in a daily basis at the moment. Consequently, Twitter users suffer from an information deluge and a large number of recommendation methods have been proposed to re-rank the tweets in a user's timeline according to her interests.

Online Structure Learning for Markov Logic Networks using Background Knowledge Axiomatization

Many domains of interest today are characterized by both uncertainty and complex relational structure. Therefore probabilistic structure learning is a popular research topic in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The research area of Statistical Relational Learning (SRL) specifically attempts to effectively represent, reason, and learn in domains that are governed by these characteristics. This thesis studies the problem of probabilistic structure learning under the Markov Logic Networks (MLN) framework.

Reasoning and Data Analytics for Security (ReDAS) Laboratory

Dr Rakesh Verma' s talk will start with an overview of the research being done in the ReDAS Laboratory at the University of Houston. I will then examine the NSF-funded Phishing Detection project in some detail. The emphasis is on robust and comprehensive techniques for phishing email, web site and URL detection. I will conclude with some of the projects that grew out of these efforts to design robust and effective classifiers for phishing detection.

Θα παρουσιαστούν ερευνητικές δραστηριότητες της ομάδας γλώσσας και μάθησης που εξετάζουν το ρόλο της προσοχής στη μάθηση και την επάλληλη επεξεργασία λέξεων στην αναγνωστική ανάπτυξη. Παρότι έχουμε συνηθίσει τον όρο "μάθηση" σε σχολικά περιβάλλοντα, όπου δίνεται ιδιαίτερη έμφαση σε σκόπιμη και επίπονη διαδικασία απόκτησης γνώσεων, υπάρχει και ένα αχανές πεδίο άρρητης μάθησης ποικίλων κινητικών, γλωσσικών και άλλων γνωσιακών δεξιοτήτων.

Network and System Support for Intelligent Information Infrastructures

The advent of virtualisation and the outsourcing of ICT over collocation environments are changing the landscape of future networked infrastructures, shifting the attention from bandwidth (over)provisioning to converged (network, compute, storage) service provisioning in short timescales. At the same time, data communication networks are increasingly considered part of the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) the same way utility and industrial control networks are, and need to be resilient against deliberate cyber-attacks, natural disasters, and misconfigurations.

Presentation of the Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the activities of the Knowledge Engineering Laboratory

The talk will briefly introduce the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Agricultural Information Institute (AII) that is located at the Bejing campus of CAAS. CAAS is the nation’s largest stakeholder and producer of agricultural research. AAI is one of the institutes of CAAS (http://www.caas.cn/en/administration/research_institutes/) that has been established in 1957.
