WiCom laboratory partners with ANTRUM to develop VHF antenna

The WiCom laboratory is currently in partnership with ANTRUM Ltd (www.antrum.co.uk), a spinoff company of Loughborough University, UK, for research and development of a VHF antenna for applications in M2M satellite communications under a programme facilitated by ESA. The first phase of the project has been successfully completed.

WiCom Lab co-organises the European School of Antennas in June 2019

The Wireless Communications Laboratory (WiCom) of IIT, in collaboration with Loughborough University, organizes for second time the European School of Antennas 2019 (titled: "Advanced Materials for Antennas and Microwave Devices") and welcomes everyone who might be interested to attend. This year the courses will be held at the premises of Loughborough University, UK.

AI4EU:SKEL Lab brings in new Artificial Intelligence project | Interviewing Thales' Research Director P.Gatellier

SKEL Lab is a partner in the European Commission's "AI4EU: A European AI on Demand Platform and Ecosystem" project, that was officially launched on January 10, 2019. AI4EU aims to help the European Community become a global leader in both highly advanced and human-centred AI, promising cutting-edge breakthroughs in this pivotal technological arena.

In the frame of the BioASQ Challenge (http://bioasq.org/) George Paliouras gave a keynote speech on Tuesday 12 February at the Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon in Kashiwa, Japan.

The BLAH5 Hackathon took place from 12 to 15 February 2019 as part of a series organized to promote collaboration for sharing and linking resources for biomedical literature annotation and mining.

Following a year of preparations, IEEE's prestigious International Spoken Language Technology conference was held in Athens receiving international acclaim.

The biennial conference which took place in Europe, for the first time in IEEE's history, was co-chaired by Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis, SKEL Lab, IIT&T, NCSR Demokritos, along with Dr. Yannis Stylianou, Apple & University of Crete and Dr. Srinivas Bangalore, Interactions.

Organization and hosting of the Kick-off Meeting for the new CODESKILLS4ROBOTICS project

On 26 and 27 November 2018 at the Aigaion Meeting Room, the kick-off meeting for the Erasmus+ project CODESKILLS4ROBOTICS: Promoting Coding & STEM Skills through Robotics: Supporting Primary Schools to Develop Inclusive Digital Strategies for All took place. N.C.S.R. "Demokritos" is the Coordinator of the project.

Representatives of all six (6) partners participated in this very fruitful meeting from Greece, Cyprus, Belgium and Sweden and in particular from:

SKEL Lab travelled to Canada for the second time with iASiS

-- Dr. G.Paliouras travelled to Canada in September 2018, as an invited speaker for the second time in the frame of iASiS project. His first stop was in Toronto at the Fields Institute on September 25th where he gave a talk about "Data integration and analysis for personalized medicine" whilst focusing on iASiS project progress.
