Dr George Giannakopoulos is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher at the “Intelligent Science and Engineering (INSANE)” Research Group of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR “Demokritos”, as well as co-founder and CEO of SciFY (a not-for-profit AI organization bringing AI results to society). He is also a co-founder and the scientific officer of the ahedd Digital Innovation Hub (ahedd DIH S.A.).
He carries more than 25 years of IT and AI-related consulting and software engineering expertise on industrial and publicly-funded projects. He is a member of the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society (EETN) and of the European Chapter of the Association of Computational Linguistics (ACL). He has contributed to several MSc programmes (AI, Data Science, Quantum Computing & Quantum Technologies, Cognitive Science) and training events (SciFY Academies, “AI Pioneers in Greece” trainings, etc). He has also participation in numerous working groups at a policy-making level (National Sectorial Scientific Council on Data Policy and A.I. 2021-2023; working group for the draft Greek National Strategy on AI (2021); DigitalSME Alliance Focus Group on AI, etc.).
George has co-authored more than 100 scientific publications (by 2025) with approximately 2000 citations (by 2025). He also authored the first Greek book on AI that addresses non-expert and expert audiences alike, under the title “AI: a subtle demystification” in 2021. He also contributes with tens of presentations, articles and interviews across the community and the media landscape, supporting the meaningful dissemination of AI-related opportunities and challenges.
