George Paliouras is acting director of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, at NCSR “Demokritos” (Greece). He holds a PhD from the University of Manchester (UK) on machine learning and has more than 30 years of research experience in ML and AI. He has initiated various research teams in this period, among which the Complex Event Recognition Lab and the Biomedical & Health Informatics Team. Among various contributions to the research community, he has served as board member in national and international scientific societies; member of the editorial board of international journals and chair of international conferences. Most recently, he has been area chair for ECAI 2024 and 2025, and he is action editor of the Machine Learning Journal. He has been and is still involved as PI and co-PI in many European and national research projects. He has taught postgraduate courses and has co-founded NCSR’s spin-off companies. He is currently part-time ML advisor and Board member at LangAware Health Inc. Ηe is actively involved in the community of rare disease patients and he is voluntarily chairing the board of the Duchenne Data Foundation.
