Media Networks Laboratory

The Media Networks Laboratory is a part of the "Digital Communications" research programme of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, NCSR "Demokritos". It is located in the premises of NCSR in Athens, Greece and employs high-qualified research personnel, specialised in networking and multimedia technologies. The laboratory has been active for more than a decade in a number of national and european research projects, following the reputation of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunication in the global research communities. In this context, it maintains close collaboration with Greek and international partners, both industrial and academic. The research achievements of the laboratory are refelected in a considerable number of publications in journals and conferences.

The research activities of the laboratory are focused on:

  • 5G: 5G New RAN (NR), Next-generation Core (NG Core), End-to-end slicing, Cloud-RAN
  • CLOUD COMPUTING: Cloud management and monitoring, Cloud networking, Application/Service chaining, Automation and orchestration
  • NETWORK MANAGEMENT: End-to-end network monitoring, Inter-domain federation, Network security, Automation, Machine Learning algorithms for optimisation and security
  • SOFTWARE-DRIVEN NETWORKS: Network Functions Virtualisation (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC)
  • SECURITY: Big Data analytics for network security, analysis and detection of cyber threats, IDS/IPS systems, security of next generation networks
  • MULTIMEDIA DELIVERY: A/V coding and streaming, Quality of Experience (QoE) assessment, Dynamic Network/Application optimisation, Delivery of AR/VR services
