It first started 4 years ago, and once again the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos dedicates the month of July to Artificial Intelligence which includes summer schools and conferences throughout the month.
During the first week, from 1 – 3 July, the HIAS Universal AI Course, took place on campus organised by the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS).
IIT Director Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis welcomed more than 450 University students from Greece on Campus for the AI Course. Talks and panel discussions took place with Institute Researchers who were amongst the lecturers at the event, Dr. Georgios Paliouras and Dr. Alexandros Artikis presented “AI Application for Events & Activity recognition” while Dr Xenia Ziouvelou presented “Ethics in AI” and a panel discussion on the final day Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis and Dr. Denia Kanellpoulou on “AI and Data Innovation”.
During the second week, from 8 – 12 July, the historic 59th Summer School of NCSR Demokritos welcomed more than 300 University students.
Tuesday 9 July was the designated day for Informatics and Telecommunications with 10 scheduled presentations by colleagues. Two of them were AI-dedicated sessions on Music & AI by Dr Theodoros Giannakopoulos, and Empowering Natural Sciences with AI byDr Panagiotis Krokidas and Dr Christoforos Rekatsinas.
In the two final weeks between 15 – 26 July, two European Schools on AI run jointly ESSAI & ACCAI at NCSR Demokritos Campus were co-organised by an array of important organisations across Europe. The European Association for Artificial Intelligence, TAILOR – Network of Research Excellence Centres, the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society, the Artificial Intelligence Team of the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Archimedes Research Unit, and the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”
IIT participated with a presentation on Complex Event Recognition by Dr Alexandros Artikis on Wednesday 17 July.
