Preliminary results of the latest BioASQ Synergy Challenge are now available in the form of a comprehensive easy-to-read infographic which contains statistical information on the four rounds of the task which was recently completed.
During this BioASQ Synergy Task, novel Information Retrieval (IR) and Question Answering (QA) systems were put in direct dialog with biomedical experts invterested in COVID-19. In this task, biomedical experts posed unanswered questions for the developing problem of COVID-19. Participating systems were required to provide answers and evidence, which in turn were assessed by the experts and fed back to the systems, together with updated questions. This task involves IR, QA, summarisation and more on an continuously expanding dataset of documents for COVID-19. Through this process, this task aims to facilitate the incremental understanding of COVID-19 and contribute to the discovery of new solutions.
Both biomedical researchers on COVID-19 and researchers on biomedical IR and QA systems are welcome to volunteer their participation in the new round of the BioASQ Synergy upcoming task this Spring.
What are BioASQ Challenges?
BioASQ organises challenges on biomedical semantic indexing and question answering (QA). The challenges include tasks relevant to hierarchical text classification, machine learning, information retrieval, QA from texts and structured data, multi-document summarisation and many other areas.
Monetary and other prizes are awarded to the best performing systems.
