The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications (IIT) of NCSR Demokritos participated in the annual conference #LeonteiosAI | AI and Creativity in Education, organized by the Leonteios School, contributing to the dialogue on the role of Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation in education.
The conference brought together representatives of the State, leading academics, researchers, educators, and creators from Greece and abroad, fostering a multidisciplinary discussion on the future of learning, creativity, and the evolving role of technology in the classroom.
Dr Stelios Karozis, Affiliated Researcher at NCSR Demokritos and Deputy Technical Coordinator of the PHAROS: The Greek AI Factory, participated in the panel “The Leonteios School Framework for Artificial Intelligence”, addressing how AI is reshaping learning processes, creativity, and the role of educators. During the conference, the achievements and future goals of the #LeonteiosAI alumni committee were also presented, with emphasis on ongoing initiatives and the vision for leveraging Artificial Intelligence. The discussion further explored the integration of AI in early stages of education, the need for developing AI-related skills in specialized domains, as well as European initiatives in AI education in the context of AI Factories, including the Greek AI Factory: PHAROS.

The panel “The Leonteios School Framework for Artificial Intelligence”
Dr. Dora Katsamori, Research Associate at IIT, participated in the panel “Can AI replace teacher’s role?”, addressing key questions around the evolving role of educators in fostering digital skills and supporting the adoption of innovation in education. The discussion also focused on how AI can be integrated into educational practice without undermining the teacher’s role, highlighting the importance of cultivating a digital culture that prepares the educational community for this transition, as well as the need for ethical and responsible use of AI in education. In this context, reference was also made to the collaboration between IIT and the Leonteios School of Nea Smyrni through the initiative “Cultivating a Digital Culture in Our School”, implemented within the Digital Learning Hub project.

Overall, IIT’s participation highlighted the importance of connecting research, education, and innovation, contributing to the responsible and meaningful integration of AI and digital technologies in the learning ecosystem.
