The Athens Natural Language Processing (AthNLP) Summer School 2025 took place from 4 to 10 September at the NCSR Demokritos campus in Athens. The event attracted 90 graduate students and PhD candidates from around the world, who were selected from more than 175 applications. Participants took part in a week-long program exploring natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLMs), and their practical applications.

The school was co-organized by the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos, the Athena Research Center (through the Archimedes Unit and the Institute for Language and Speech Processing ILSP), the Athens University of Economics and Business (Department of Informatics), Heriot-Watt University, and ELLIS Manchester – European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems.

The curriculum included:

  • Keynote lectures from international experts

  • Hands-on workshops and demonstrations

  • Networking sessions connecting academia and industry

Topics covered encompassed classification, sequence prediction, neural networks, encoder-decoder architectures, machine translation, LLMs, and multimodality.

AthNLP 2025 was supported by numerous sponsors, including major companies such as the Omilia, Interamerican, Aegean Airlines, Google, Eurobank, Causaly, Endeavor.

Academic supporters include NCSR Demokritos, the “Archimedes” unit of the Athena Research Center, the Lifelong Learning and Training Center of AUEB with its Master’s Program in Data Science, and the Hellenic Artificial Intelligence Society.
