The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos took part in the EGU General Assembly 2025 held in Vienna, between 27 April and 2 May 2025. The Annual General Assembly of the European Geosciences Union (EGU), acts as a global hub for the latest advancements in geosciences.

Dr Antonis Troumpoukis, presented the DeployAI project in the session “Seamless Transitioning between HPC and Cloud in Support of Earth Observation, Earth Modelling, and Community-Driven Geoscience (PANGEO)“. His talk, titled “DeployAI Earth Observation Services: Enabling Environmental Insights on the European AI-on-Demand Platform“, showcased work in collaboration with colleagues from ECMWF and Fraunhofer IAIS and highlighted how AI can support environmental monitoring and decision-making by leveraging cloud and HPC infrastructures.

Dr Troumpoukis, also contributed to a PICO session with colleagues from SBA Research and University of Glasgow titled “On integrating complex hazard dependencies into descriptive disaster scenario generation approaches” – an effort to better understand cascading effects in disaster risk modelling.

The EGU General Assembly 2025, brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.
