The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications, NCSR Demokritos co-organised the 1st International Natural Language Processing Summer School (AthNLP, http://athnlp.iit.demokritos.gr/), which took place at the campus of NCSR “Demokritos” from 18 to 25 September 2019.
Natural Language Processing is a subfield of Artificial Intelligence that develops algorithms and computational models that allow computers to “understand” and generate natural language text and/or spoken language.
The instructors of the Summer School are top Natural Language Processing researchers from universities, research centers and information technology companies around the world (see http://athnlp.iit.demokritos.gr/speakers/). The School was attended by 100 participants, selected from approximately 260 who applied to participate. The central lectures of the Summer School were video-recorded and will be made freely available after the completion of the School.
The summer school was co-organized by the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR “Demokritos”, the Department of Informatics of AUEB, the Institute for Language and Speech Processing of the Research Center “Athena” and the School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences of Heriot-Watt University. The Scientific Committee of the School comprises Ion Androutsopoulos (Associate Professor, AUEB), Andreas Vlachos (Senior Lecturer, University of Cambridge), Anastasia Krithara (Associate Researcher, NCSR “Demokritos”), Yannis Konstas (Lecturer, Heriot-Watt), Haris Papageorgiou (Research Director, RC “Athena”) and Georgios Petasis (Researcher, NCSR “Demokritos”).
The Summer School was supported by several sponsors such as EY, Google, Omilia, Workable, Facebook, Causaly, DeepSea, Cognitiv+, Voiceweb and academic supporters (see http://athnlp.iit.demokritos.gr/sponsors/).
