Acknowledging the great importance Education holds as an offering to society, the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications has continuously supported Education with various activities throughout the years.
This academic year, yet another wide set of programmed activities is taking place across different educational levels, spanning from the continuation of Master’s programs, PhD scholarships abroad, as well as the continuation of educational activities for schools among others.
Master’s Programs
This academic year IIT co-manages four (4) cross-Institutional MSc Programs in collaboration with Greek Universities. The programs kicked off in October with a number of chosen students participating. Below you can find detailed information on MSc’s official websites.
- MSc in Artificial Intelligence – Collaboration with University of Piraeus (SKEL)
- MSc in Data Science – Collaboration with University of the Peloponnese (SKEL)
- MSc in ICTs & Special Education – Psychopedagogy of Integration – Collaboration with Democritus University of Thrace (NML & Mind-Brain)
- MSc in Clinical Practice and Applications Technology in Health – Collaboration with Democritus University of Thrace (ISL)
PhD Scholarships abroad
Since 2008, IIT collaborates with Universities abroad and awards full scholarships for joint PhD studies to students in Greece. For this year 7 PhD candidates will have the opportunity to receive a scholarship to study in US Universities (University of Texas at Arlington, University of Houston, Rice University) and in Canada (Dalhousie University). The research areas are AI, Robotics, Machine Learning, Big Data & Bioinformatics. Applications are now open until the 14th of December 2020.

School Visits
With the initiation of the new academic year 2020-2021, and taking all COVID-19 health and safety precautions, NCSR Demokritos has opened its gates to school students for yet another year. The successful program, which welcomes thousands of students every year, was brought to a halt in March due to pandemic restrictions.
This year IIT participates with two programs which have been developed by expert museum educators: Robots at play and Databases – Bases for a better life.
The robotics educational program is aimed at elementary school students and has been developed by the Roboskel group of SKEL with the purpose to teach them more about the past, present and future of robotics. Within this session, students get to interact with Pepper the Robot which is joining the team of robots for the second year, following our successful collaboration with the Athens International Airport.
The databases program is designed for high school students to help them understand the multifaceted importance of database systems in everyday life and its use in technology.
