Dr Anastasia Krithara and Mr Alexandros Nousias researchers of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of NCSR Demokritos were featured in the documentary “Artificial Intelligence – The Invisible Mind”, broadcast as part of the Prime Time series on SKAI TV.
Dr Anastasia Krithara Head of the BioHIT team at IIT presented how artificial intelligence is applied in healthcare, focusing on the combination of data from electronic health records, scientific literature and open datasets to support predictive modelling. Her work aims to improve the understanding of disease progression and assess treatment effectiveness, while also contributing to drug discovery and repurposing through the identification of novel relationships in biomedical data.

Mr Alexandros Nousias AI Ethics officer of NCSR Demokritos, highlighted key aspects of AI governance, law and ethics, raising questions about how regulatory and ethical frameworks for AI systems are defined and how trustworthy such systems can be in decision-making processes with societal impact. He outlined different regulatory approaches, including the US model, which emphasizes innovation, the Chinese model aligned with state strategies, and the European model, which prioritizes fundamental rights and individual freedoms.

The documentary explores the broader role of artificial intelligence in contemporary society, highlighting its impact on healthcare, work and everyday life, as well as the challenges and ethical considerations that accompany its rapid development.
