The Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT)  successfully supported and participated in recent trial activities and demonstrations conducted in the framework of the 6G-VERSUS Εuropean research project. The activities took place using the Athens B5G/6G Experimentation Platform, one of the most advanced open research infrastructures for Beyond 5G and 6G experimentation in Europe.

The IIT FRONT research team, which develops and operates the Athens B5G/6G Experimentation Platform, played a leading role in the Greek pilot activities of the 6G-VERSUS project. Leveraging the platform’s advanced capabilities in secure communications, network orchestration, edge computing, UAV-enabled services, and large-scale 6G validation, the trial brought together NCSR Demokritos as the lead of the Athens 5G/6G testbed and Greek cluster leader, I-SENSE/ICCS as the use-case champion, OTE providing commercial-grade telecommunications capabilities and AI-enabled wildfire detection services, INFOLYSiS developing and integrating AI-enabled application components, and the Hellenic Rescue Team of Attica participating as end users and validating the operational aspects of the solution. The successful execution of the trial demonstrated the value of open and interoperable research platforms in fostering collaboration and accelerating innovation across the European 6G ecosystem.

The active involment of the FRONT research team in flagship Eurpean initiatives such as 6G-VERSUS alongside its work on AI-native networks, open 5G/6G architectures, and large-scale experimentation platforms, reinforces NCSR Demokritos’ role at the forefront of European Beyond-5G and 6G research and innovation.
