The 13th Regional Growth Conference (RGC 2025) took place from 12 to 14 May 2025, at the Conference and Cultural Center of the University of Patras. This annual event serves as a public platform for dialogue among governmental, regional, academic, and business representatives, addressing challenges and best practices in regional development and innovation.
IIT participated in RGC 2025, represented by our researcher Dr. George Giannakopoulos, who spoke on Wednesday 14 May 2025 in discussion panel, titled Artificial Intelligence & Cultural Heritage: Innovation for Sustainable Development. In his presentation, Dr. Giannakopoulos discussed the transformative role of AI in digitising, preserving, and sharing cultural heritage. He emphasised the importance of balancing technological advancements with the authenticity and sustainability of cultural assets.
The session highlighted how AI-driven tools can enhance public engagement with cultural heritage, making it more accessible and contributing to regional development through tourism, education, and creative industries. Dr. Giannakopoulos’s insights underscored the potential of AI to bridge tradition and innovation, positioning cultural heritage as a dynamic foundation for sustainable progress.
The RGC 2025 attracted over 1,000 participants and featured more than 240 speakers across over 50 discussion panels, fostering productive discussions and collaborations on regional policy and development .
