Τhe yearly Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF/ ΔΕΘ) is considered to be one of the most significant Exhibitions in Europe. As every year, the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos” participated in this year’s 85th TIF with a number of activities that took place from 11-19 September 2021 in Thessaloniki. 
NCSR Demokritos was included in the pavilion of the Ministry of Development & Investments (pavilion No7, stand No3).
In the 2 booths that have been allocated to NCSR Demokritos, there were exhibits and presentations from three of its Institutes, as well as from ahedd Digital Innovation Hub and companies of the “LEFKIPPOS” Attica Technology Park.
More specifically, the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications was one of the three institutes that participated, with an interactive exhibit on the processing of Digital Historical Documents – Digital Document Image Analysis / Digital Historical Document Analysis, using advanced image processing techniques, pattern recognition, and in-depth machine learning.
On Sunday 12 September, further initiatives of NCSR Demokritos were presented at the Ministry’s Pavilion:
- Giga Campus
- Smart Attica
- Linked Business
- SCiO
Additionally, the start-up LANGaware, which spun off the H2020 iASiS project (coordinated by SKEL | The AI Lab) is one of the top three tech start-up companies to have been invited to showcase its work at the Greek Ministry of Health pavilion. Furthermore, the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics (INPP) and the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) have also participated.

TIF 2021 is an event with significant meaning for our country as this year the event was dedicated to Greece Past, Presence and Future, in the context of the celebratory anniversary of the country’s 200 years since the Greek Revolution of 1821.
This year’s event sought to contribute to the redefinition of the needs of Greek society, to stimulate its historical memory, and to bring citizens closer to the new digital services and technologies, innovations, but also to Greek production.
