Last year, the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications launched a successful series of tributes, dedicating a month to a different scientific field every time, aiming to raise awareness about scientific results that make an impact on people’s daily lives. In July 2020 we celebrated Artificial Intelligence, in October 2020 it was 5G Networks, and in March 2021 it was Cyber and Physical Security.
This June, IIT highlights one of the fields it has invested in the most throughout the years: Education. Various activities are scheduled to be organised and online Info Days about the joint Master Degrees will take place every week throughout June.
Dr Athanasios Drigas, Research Director of Net Media Lab Mind-Brain R&D will present the postgraduate programme that aims to provide the opportunity to post graduate students, coming from different scientific backgrounds to specialise, on the one hand, in Special Education and the Pedagogy of inclusion and, on the other, in Technological Applications of the Information and Technology Sciences that enable the inclusion and education of people with disabilities.
In this context, the purpose of the programme is to offer students advanced studies and adequate theoretical and practical competence. This will enable them to pursue a scientific career in the fields of Special Education and IT but also a professional teaching career in the field of Special Education. In this field, there is an ever-increasing demand in the public, private and non-formal education, as well as in Social Care Institutions for fully trained and specialised teachers and scientists.
Dr Theodore Giannakopoulos, Senior Researcher at IIT, NCSR Demokritos and Prof Spiros Skiadopoulos, Director of the Master’s programme and Professor at the University of the Peloponnese will present the postgraduate programme that provides the opportunity to postgraduate students, coming from different scientific backgrounds, to specialise on the very interesting and contemporary field of Data Science.
The purpose of the program is to offer advanced postgraduate studies, theoretical proficiency and practical competence to Data Science topics. Our viewpoint of Data Science covers all aspects of Informatics but also extends to interdisciplinary fields (such as biology, medicine, energy and ethics) and their applications. Addressing the high and constantly increasing demand for Data scientists, graduates of the programme may pursue a Data Science expert career, in the public or private sector, or continue their studies toward a doctorate degree.
Prof George Vouros, Director of the Master’s programme, Professor at the University of Piraeus and Head of its AI Laboratory and Dr Theodore Giannakopoulos, Senior Researcher at IIT, NCSR Demokritos will present the postgraduate programme that aims to provide a comprehensive programme on AI theory and technology, emphasising on state of the art techniques, methods and modern programming environments. The programme’s goal is our students to be among those that will lead research and development on AI, as demand for human resources with excellent knowledge of Artificial Intelligence techniques and methods, is internationally now a given.
Artificial Intelligence (AI), is a well-recognised and internationally established scientific field of computer science that overlaps with many other sciences: Philosophy, ethics, economics, statistics, linguistics, neuro-physiology, sociology, etc. It covers a variety of topics: Computational logic, natural language processing, systems autonomy, machine learning, computational vision, etc. In the present era, appropriate conditions and special opportunities have been formed for remarkable AI results, while there is a lot of discussion on the possibilities of AI, with special emphasis on the risks and emerging ethical issues.
Prof Helen Douda, Director of the Master’s programme, Professor on Applied Exercise Physiology in Health and Sports, Dean of the School of Physical Education & Sport Science, Democritus University of Thrace and Dr Stelios C. A. Thomopoulos, Director of Research at IIT, Head of Integrated Systems Laboratory will present the postgraduate programme in Clinical Practice and Technology Applications in Health. The MSc is running since the academic year 2018-2019.
Mobile and ubiquitous computing have provided a wide range of ICT devices and applications which have substantially changed and improved the modus operandi of Clinical Exercise and Sports Science methods. This MSc offers specialised and innovative Practice capabilities based on ICT to support the careers of relevant professionals, practitioners and specialised market entrepreneurs.
