About the talk: As Japan’s primary hub for life science database integration, DBCLS (Database Center for Life Science) has long developed essential resources for connecting literature with structured data. Today, the rise of LLMs is transforming these efforts, offering new ways to both generate and utilize annotations. In this talk, I will introduce the text annotation resources developed at DBCLS, focusing specifically on their evolution in the LLM era. I will discuss how our resources are being optimized to serve as “LLM-friendly” foundations, enabling more accurate, structured, and scalable knowledge discovery in the life sciences.
Short Bio: Dr. Jin-Dong Kim is a Project Associate Professor at the Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS), Research Organization of Information and Systems (ROIS), Japan. His expertise lies in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and text mining for the life sciences. He focuses on improving the accessibility and interoperability of scientific information through long-term initiatives such as PubAnnotation and PubDictionaries, which now serve as critical infrastructure for LLM-driven knowledge discovery. With an extensive academic record of over 100 peer-reviewed papers and 7,000+ citations, he also actively organizes influential community events, including the Biomedical Linked Annotation Hackathon (BLAH) series.
