[VIDEO] Invited Talk - TileDB: The Database for AI - SKEL | The AI Lab

SKEL | The AI Lab, hosted invited speaker Dr. Stavros Papadopoulos, Founder and CEO of TileDB, delivered a talk titled TileDB: The Database for AI on Monday 11 March 2024, at 17.00 (EET Athens time). The talk was held online via zoom.

Watch the video of the talk:

About the talk: AI is more than LLMs. In order to build AI-powered solutions and rapidly gain insights from data, organisations are required to build sophisticated data stacks that mainly address (1) complex data, i.e., highly diverse, structured and “unstructured” data that need to be stored, managed, analysed and combined, and (2) complex compute, i.e., workloads that go way beyond some simple tabular / SQL queries and file accesses, such as training and deploying ML models, running distributed scientific analyses, supporting RAG LLMs and many more. TileDB is the only database in the world that is built from the ground up to natively offer everything an organisation needs to support complex data and compute, all in a single product that can replace even the more sophisticated data infrastructures. In this presentation, we will cover the TileDB technology and internal mechanics, and show a comprehensive demo around multiple key use cases (such as in genomics, single-cell, GenAI, analytics and more). After the presentation, a demo of TileDB will follow.

Short Bio: Dr. Stavros Papadopoulos is the Founder and CEO of TileDB. Prior to founding TileDB, Inc. in February 2017, Dr. Papadopoulos was a Senior Research Scientist at the Intel Parallel Computing Lab, and a member of the Intel Science and Technology Center for Big Data at MIT CSAIL for three years. He also spent about two years as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Stavros received his PhD degree in Computer Science at HKUST under the supervision of Prof. Dimitris Papadias, and held a postdoc fellow position at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with Prof. Yufei Tao.
