Multi Agent Systems are used more and more to solve previously intractable problems, and are the natural choice for implementing a message passing algorithm. In this thesis a max sum decentralized coordination algorithm  is implemented using the JADE Multi Agent framework in Java. This model is tested against the model described in  and is then applied on several problems to test its performance on areas other than decentralized coordination. We can thus see how powerful a message passing algorithm can be when operating in different environments, implemented in a multi agent framework.
