Several new projects have been launched during 2022 for the Laboratories of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications, while more research projects are scheduled to be launched in 2023, following the Institute’s successful path of attracting funds.

An AI On-Demand Platform to support Research Excellence in Europe
AI4Europe will establish and support mechanisms to foster exchange between academia and industry and ensure the AI on Demand Platform reaches out to and engages with the next generation of researchers and those in widening countries. The project will develop and implement a business model that will ensure the long-term technical and financial structures providing sustainability for the AI on Demand Platform beyond the lifetime of the project. AI4Europe will support the community to create a tool that will help position Europe as the place where the very best AI research is conducted.
GATEKEEPER
Smart Living Homes – Whole Interventions Demonstrator For People At Health And Social Risks
The eHealthUnit will implement the iwelli4ageing pilot within the framework of the Gatekeeper project . The iwelli4ageing pilot aims to integrate Electronic Health Records with the Gatekeeper platform and simplify the implementation of IoT services for end users of the EHRs utilising the Gatekeeper platform, set up a more complex ecosystem of services in the med.iwelli.com platform to enhance the diagnostic, prevention and disease management capabilities for multi-morbidity patients with cardiac diseases and set up an open-source plugin (Info-button tool) that augments electronic records (EHRs, PHR) with intelligent search engines capabilities able to index and look through specific domain knowledge to guide the optimal treatment and support of multi-morbidity patients.
HARMONISE
Towards harmonisation in licensing of future nuclear power technologies in Europe
HARMONISE puts forward a holistic approach for studying the body of knowledge required to accomplish harmonisation and standardisation of methodologies, codes and standards as well as the assessment of nuclear reactor components. HARMONISE will examine issues related to qualification, standardisation, V&V and licensing of fission and fusion installations, while taking into account stakeholder involvement.
TITAN
AI for Citizen Intelligent Coaching against Disinformation
TITAN will deliver an open, distributed and citizen engaging ecosystem which empowers the citizen itself to conduct effective and efficient investigations for understanding whether statements at hand are true. The TITAN Ecosystem will be developed following a human-centered approach which will engage diverse groups of citizens in productive co-creation sessions at all project implementation phases.

Autonomous, scalablE, tRustworthy, intelligent European meta Operating System for the IoT edge-cloud continuum
aerOS is a European research project running for three years which aims at transparently utilising the resources on the edge-to-cloud computing continuum for enabling applications in an effective manner while incorporating multiple services. The overarching goal of aerOS is to design and build a virtualised, platform-agnostic meta operating system for the IoT edge-cloud continuum.
ENEXA
Efficient Explainable Learning on Knowledge Graphs
Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) is key to achieving a human-centred and ethical development of digital and industrial solutions. ENEXA builds upon novel and promising results in knowledge representation and machine learning to develop scalable, transparent and explainable machine learning algorithms for knowledge graphs. The project focuses on knowledge graphs because of their critical role as enabler of new solutions across domains and industries in Europe.
EVENFLOW
Robust Learning & Reasoning for Complex Forecasting
EVENFLOW will develop hybrid learning techniques for complex event forecasting, which combine deep learning with logic-based learning and reasoning into neuro-symbolic forecasting models. The envisioned methods will combine (i) neural representation learning techniques, capable of constructing event-based features from streams of perception-level data with (ii) powerful symbolic learning and reasoning tools, that utilise such features to synthesise high-level, interpretable patterns of critical situations to be forecast. EVENFLOW will be evaluated on three challenging use cases related to oncological forecasting in precision medicine, safe and efficient behaviour of autonomous transportation robots in smart factories and reliable life cycle assessment of critical infrastructure.

Data Spaces for effective and trusted data sharing
i4Trust aims to support different players in the creation of Data Spaces by relying on common standard-based mechanisms for data interoperability, data value creation, as well as data sovereignty and trust. In total, the initiative will mobilise 5.8 million euros to boost data sharing and facilitate SME innovation capability through the creation of Data Spaces. ahedd is participating in the AgriSpace4Trust experiment that will create data hubs to exploit data collected by weather stations or agro-environmental sensors and then, open them to a broader local community, enabling an effective and fair presumption of data services.

DIHs for Embedding Interoperability in Cyber-Physical Systems of European SMEs
The initiative for Fostering DIHs for Embedding Interoperability in Cyber-Physical Systems of European SMEs (DIH4CPS) will help European enterprises overcome the innovation hurdles and establish Europe as a world leading innovator of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. DIH4CPS will create an embracing, interdisciplinary network of DIHs and solution providers, focused on cyber-physical and embedded systems, interweaving knowledge and technologies from different domains, and connecting regional clusters with the pan-European expert pool of DIHs.

SUSTAIN project is scheduled to address three specific needs: 1) Boost the market of building construction by developing a wide network of related clusters and SMEs in order to minimise the effect of the Covid- 19 crisis; 2) Address the strategic dependencies, both technological and industrial in the field of building construction sector and enhance the EU’s open strategic autonomy, by promoting innovative services and training SMEs to adopt these services ; 3) Focus on the green and digital transition for companies related in the market of building sector, by promoting innovative solutions related to buildings’ energy efficiency and smartness.
FRISCO
Fighting teRrorISt Content Online
The general objective of FRISCO is to support Hosting Services Providers (HSP) to comply to the Terrorist Content Online (TCO) regulation, through informing and increasing HSPs’ awareness of the TCO Regulation and their new obligations, through developing and validating tools, frameworks and mechanisms to support HSPs in the implementation of the TCO regulation and through sharing experience, best practices and tools to support the implementation of the TCO regulation.
Pre-PAI
Preparation of the development of the AI-on-demand platform
Pre-PAI will be the realisation of Preparatory actions for the AI on Demand Platform providing the blueprint for the further development, deployment, and operation of the European AI on Demand Platform, realised in Deployment of the AI on Demand Platform. The project will carry out a comprehensive requirement analysis for different stakeholder groups, mainly SMEs, industrial sectors, and public administration.
ICOS
Towards a functional continuum operating system
The main objective of the ICOS project is to design, develop and validate a meta operating system for a continuum, by addressing the challenges of: i) devices volatility and heterogeneity, continuum infrastructure virtualisation and diverse network connectivity; ii) optimised and scalable service execution and performance, as well as resources consumptions, including power consumption; iii) guaranteed trust, security and privacy, and; iv) reduction of integration costs and effective mitigation of cloud provider lock-in effects, in a data-driven system built upon the principles of openness, adaptability, data sharing and a future edge market scenario for services and data.

Digital platform for republishing historical Greek books
The proposed investment aims at the development of a smart Digital Platform for republishing Historical Greek Books. The aim is to develop new techniques and methodologies for text recognition (mostly polytonic, modern and foreign-language) for scientific cultural heritage documentation, as well as reducing the time and cost of all relevant processes (digitisation – documentation) related to the republishing of historical Greek Books in modern Greek language.

Automatic music monitoring of public performance
A “public performance” of music is defined in most EU and US countries copyright laws to include any music played outside a small circle of friends and family that occurs in any public place. The goal of this project is to build an algorithmic pipeline that runs on a small device (such as Raspberry PI) and monitors songs in spaces such as restaurants, hotels, cafes, clubs and bars. The two project partners are MagCIL and GEA. MagCIL builds the core algorithmic infrastructure of the project, utilising its expertise in fields such as audio analysis, music information retrieval and signal processing. GEA is the official music copyright collective management organisation of Greece and is responsible for pricing such businesses that use music.
