The Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos engaged in a new groundbreaking initiative to advance 5G technology for the future of connected and automated mobility. The FRONT research group, led by Dr. Harilaos Koumaras leads the 6G/B5G Athens experimentation platform in the ENVELOPE project.
ENVELOPE’s kick-off meeting took place in Athens on 31 January and 1 February 2024, where partners gathered for the first time to discuss the project’s goals and action plans. This marks a significant milestone in NCSR Demokritos’ ongoing commitment to 6G research and development, as the Institute takes on a pivotal role as the 6G/B5G Athens experimentation platform leader in this transformative initiative.
The 6G/B5G Athens experimentation platform will be demonstrating the standard 5G advanced architecture that will be transformed into a vertically oriented structure specifically designed for CAM use cases. This ambitious project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, will run until 2026 and involves 23 partners across Europe.
