The Innovation Attica Hackathon 2024, organised by the Region of Attica, the Innovation Center Attica Region, the GR digiGOV-innoHUB and Smart Attica, took place on 23-24 November 2024 in Athens, Greece.
18 teams participated in the Hackathon, among which, two were represented by IIT researchers and collaborating researchers. The teams were also awarded 2nd and 3rd place, winning 3.000 Euros and 1.000 Euros accordingly.
The 2nd place award went to the Angelfish project, represented by IIT Researcher Dr Christoforos Rekatsinas. The project entails the development of an autonomous surface vehicle (ASV) which cleans the sea surface from pollutants, such as microplastics, biomass and larger plastics. It was realised as proof of concept by Science Agora of the Innovation Office of NCSR Demokritos and implemented by the INSANE research group on the premises of the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications.
The 3rd place award was given to the Calt project, which entails a reference software developed by Dr Elina Syrri, IIT collaborating researcher, and her team: Nikos Bellos, Alexandros Tsafos and Anna Koutoulaki. Calt is a recommendation app for cultural activities in Athens, aiming to offer tailored cultural event suggestions to the user. The idea for Calt was born during the Hackathon of the City of Athens in May 2023.
