This summer we invite you at NCSR 'Demokritos' to participate in the 5th Hellenic Forum for Science, Technology & Innovation, and in the 52nd NCSR 'Demokritos' Summer School, both scheduled for July. Hurry up, the application process is still open!
Further to our reach-out policy in Education, a new MSc (Master of Science) in Data Science is about to start at NCSR 'Demokritos' this September. This is the result of a collaboration between our Institute and the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the University of the Peloponnese. Given the exponential growth and availability of data, it is more than obvious that specializing in data handling opens access to new career options and paths, so look at how such a course could help you better position yourself in the job market.
For the 4th consecutive year, we organize SMARTcamp, a summer science camp for students age 12 to 18. The camp offers intensive weekly courses that target Digital Arts, Animation and Robotics.
In February 2017, iGuide Knossos achieved some significant milestones. The 3D digital guide got the Greenlight by the STEAM community and soon it is expected to be distributed through this ultimate online game platform. Additionally, our Institute completed the first pilot project of iGuide Knossos to integrate this digital application into the educational process, in conjunction with the Greek-German Educational Schools in Pallini, Attica.
In the same direction, we have organised with great success, two pioneer Educational Programs for Greek schools. Both programs have completed end May, the first on Robotics and Autonomous Systems and the second on Databases and Big Data. We have participated in the Open Day NCSR 2017, and we had many demos both at the pre-event "Mind the Lab" and also at the main event of Athens Science Festival 2017, one of the biggest celebrations of science and technology in Greece.
Researchers from IIT have been awarded a patent, end January, by the Hellenic Industrial Property Organisation, for their "Method for Managing Networks of Interconnected Objects".
Apart from the above, researchers from IIT have organised the 5th BioASQ Challenge, a reference point for biomedical semantic indexing & question answering, the MultiLing 2017 Workshop, the ieWomen, a Workshop on innovation and employability for Women, and the 2nd Workshop on European Policy Perspectives on Data-intensive Agriculture & Food.
For the 23rd year in a row, we were part of the Organizing Committee of the Conference on Signal Processing, Sensor/Information Fusion, and Target Recognition XXVI at the SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing that took place at Anaheim, California, USA, where we presented three research papers. IIT had also a very strong presence in the Hellenic Innovation Forum 2017, a multi-conference bringing together the researchers, academics and entrepreneurs behind new innovative ideas, products and services.
