|Newsletter of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications (IIT) of NCSR Demokritos
|Issue 20 | September 2017Past issues
I would say that last four months were some of the busiest, with lot of project proposal writing, numerous initiatives to disseminate achievements of running projects, many scientific events attracting our interest, and, last but not least, an ever-increasing activity in the area of Education.
The list of our recent dissemination initiatives is extensive and too numerous to mention all here: reading our newsletter below provides some insight into the extensive efforts of all our research groups. IIT has a great team of people that have a passion for what they do and for the wellbeing of NCSR 'Demokritos' and it makes me proud to be a part of that.
IIT Education has played an essential role in cultivating that passion and providing opportunities for numerous young people to be a part of IIT's mission to "excel in research and innovation required for the development of the knowledge society". What to mention first from a plethora of education-related activities we pursue? This month we launch a new MSc program in Data Science. We are on the 2nd year of our postgraduate studies program "Expertise in ICT & Special Education". We continue our "Special Education & ICT" Seminar Series. We organise summer schools and workshops for 13-18 years old, like the 'SMARTcamp', the 'Code & Youth' and the 'e-Challenge'. We actively participate in numerous scientific events with special focus on education, like the 'Hellenic Forum for Science, Technology & Innovation' and the upocoming 'Researcher's Night'. We organise school visits during the whole school year. We have a continuous series of lectures and seminars, with internal and external speakers. We offer 64 different topics for MSc/BSc theses and internships.
Finally, as September has stepped in, I would like to invite you to join the European Researchers' Night, our pre-event, on September 27, for school visits only, and the main event, on September 29, for the general public. Come to discover science, meet researchers, and enjoy yourself!
