Foreword

Dear Readers,

It is great to see those doing great work being recognised for it. Many from our Institute received great distinctions and a number of important awards during the last months of 2017. I would like to congratulate every one of them. Recognition motivates all of us to be more innovative in 2018, stepping up our effort and initiatives for disseminating our achievements.

Scientific reputation boosts creativity which leads to bright new ideas, new funded projects, and new jobs. These last months, we exceeded our past record with eleven new funded research projects: six that have already started and the rest five been accepted and starting soon. All this activity has resulted in more than twenty new job openings at IIT, and even more to come. At the same time, our Institute, in cooperation with Universities in USA and Canada, is offering nine new PhD scholarships.

As always, the end of the year was very busy for us, joggling Christmas holidays with more proposals writing, R&D dissemination activities, important research publications, conferences, workshops, seminars and lectures in Greece and across the world.

My best wishes to all of you for a creative, healthy and prosperous 2018!

Stelios C. A. Thomopoulos, IIT Director
