Michalis Vafopoulos is an affiliated researcher at the Software and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory (SKEL) at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center of Scientific Research «Demokritos». In 2006 joined the faculty of the Department of Cultural Informatics at the University of Aegean. In 2009 served as local chair of the 1st Web Science conference in Athens (websci09.org) and co-founded the Master in Web science at the Mathematics Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2010 initiated the www.PublicSpending.net initiative which interconnects and analyses more than 1.5 trillion euros of public expenditure around the world. He has served as member of scientific committee in conferences addressing issues about the Web (e.g. WWW Conferences) and his work has been published in well-known journals. It is focused in Web economics and business, economic networks, linked open data, Web philosophy and didactics.
