Nikos Katzouris is a tenured researcher (Grade C) at the Intsitute of Informatics & Telecommunications at NCSR “Demokritos”. He holds a BSc in Mathematics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, a BSc in Mathematical Logic & the Theory of Computation and a PhD in Machine Learning, both from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research revolves around combinations of Machine Learning with Knowledge Representation and Reasoning towards improving the transparency, robustness and trustworthiness of learning-based AI systems. His research has been published in very good international AI conferences (KR, ECML, ECAI) and journals (Machine Learning, Theory & Practice of Logic Programming). He has been a member of SKEL’s Complex Event Recognition (CER) Group (https://cer.iit.demokritos.gr/) since its inception and he currently coordinates CER’s neuro-symbolic AI research. He has extensive experience in European research projects, having participated in several H2020 and Horizon Europe initiatives. He currently serves as technical manager of the EU-funded project EVENFLOW, where he coordinates research on trustworthy neuro-symbolic techniques for complex event forecasting.
