AI: Bioethical Concerns - Joint conference by the National Bioethics Committees of Greece & Cyprus

On November 22, 2024, the Hellenic National Bioethics and Technoethics Commission (EEBT) co-organised a conference with the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee titled “Artificial Intelligence – Bioethical Concerns and Dilemmas” in Nicosia, Cyprus.

Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis, Director of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications at NCSR “Demokritos” and member of EEBT, delivered a presentation on “Education in Artificial Intelligence: Ethical Challenges and Opportunities”.

The scientific conference is part of a series of collaborations between the two national committees of Greece and Cyprus, based on their Memorandum of Understanding.

The event was inaugurated with addresses from: Professor Konstantinos Fellas, President of the Cyprus National Bioethics Committee; Dr. Charalambos Tsekeris, Vice President and Acting President of the Hellenic National Bioethics and Technoethics Commission; Mr. Michalis Damianou, Minister of Health of the Republic of Cyprus; and Dr. Petros Agathangelou, President of the Cyprus Medical Association.

Talks were also delivered by EEBT members Professor Ismini Kriari, Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law at Panteion University, President of the Hellenic Authority for Medically Assisted Reproduction, and Professor Stavroula Tsinorema, a specialist in Modern, Contemporary Philosophy and Bioethics.
