EDUCATION / SUMMER SCHOOLS

The Institute organises a number of research-oriented Summer Schools and Trainings.

Summer Schools

The 2nd European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence and the 21st Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence took place on 15-26 July 2024 in Athens, Greece.
The European Summer School on Artificial Intelligence (ESSAI) is the premier school on Artificial Intelligence in Europe. It is held every year by the European Association for Artificial Intelligence (EurAI) together with the Advanced Course on Artificial Intelligence (ACAI), and it was organised jointly with the 4th TAILOR Summer School on Artificial Intelligence.

The Summer School on Artificial Intelligence 2024 took place on 1-3 July 2024, organised by the “Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies” (HIAS) in NCSR Demokritos. Founded by Greek scientists of the diaspora, this event was a unique meeting ground for Greek experts in artificial intelligence from universities and research centers of the diaspora and Greece.
During the three days of its implementation, approximately 450 undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students, as well as researchers, attended 22 lectures on artificial intelligence. The speakers included, among others, Greek scientists from important educational institutions around the world: Harvard, Columbia, ETH Zurich, University of Texas at Austin, University of Toronto, Rice University, University of Wisconsin and University of Pennsylvania.

The HIAS Universal AI Course 2023 was organised by the Hellenic Institute of Advanced Studies (HIAS), in the framework of the HIAS Summer Events 2023. The 3-day course was held during 2-5 July 2023, on the premises of NCSR Demokritos.
The purpose of the AI course was to familiarize students from diverse backgrounds, including science, engineering, law, medicine, social sciences, humanities, and the arts, with the latest developments in AI and its potential to revolutionize various fields.
During those 3 days, a diverse group of experts shared their insights and discussed the current trends in AI, the challenges of AI application development, as well as the opportunities and benefits that arise from integrating AI into various domains.

The Wireless Communications Laboratory (WiCom Lab) of IIT organised the European School of Antennas 2019 (ESoA2019). The five day-long Postgraduate School took place from 10 to 14 June 2019 at the School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering, University of Loughborough, UK and was organised in collaboration with the Wireless Communications Research Group (WiCR) of the University of Loughborough. The School is a European geographically-distributed postgraduate school, supported by the European Association of Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP), aiming to enhance European training and research in antennas and related applications.

The Integrated Systems Laboratory of IIT, in collaboration with the Society for the Promotion of Education and Learning (Arsakeia – Tositseia Schools) hosted on a yearly basis for 5 years and until 2018 the SMARTcamp.  This Summer Workshop wass in the field of Information Technology and took place in two individual weekly sections at the premises of Arsakeia Schools in Psychico. The first section targeted Robotics whilst the second dealt with Digital Arts and Projection Mapping techniques.

The International Research-centered Summer School (IRSS) has an innovative format as it is focused on research, whereby University students form small groups and work on an actual research project for a whole month. This not only teaches them valuable research skills and fosters future collaborations and networking, but also has produced a number of research papers which were published in leading international conferences and journals. In addition, the projects of the school cover a number of research topics which are of joint interest to both IIT and collaborating Universities.
During the School there were a number of lectures given by our collaborators on various cutting edge topics of research to broaden the students’ knowledge on a variety of topics.

Trainings

IIT collaborates internally in NCSRD with the Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (INN) in conducting NanoAI seminars. More information is available here.

Additionally, through the collaboration with ahedd Digital Innovation Hub a series of trainings for companies take place. More information is available here.
