National acclaim for the Director of the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications, Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis, as he is appointed Member of the High-Level Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence to the Greek Prime Minister in October 2023.
The Advisory Committee is headed by distinguished Greek scientist and Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, Dr. Konstantinos Daskalakis.

- Kimon Drakopoulos, Associate Professor in Business Administration at the Data Sciences and Operations department at the USC
Marshall School of Business - Vasso Kindi, Professor of Philosophy of Science at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
- George Pagoulatos, Permanent Representative of the Greek department of Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
- Fereniki Panagopoulou, Assistant Professor of Constitutional Law, Data Protection Law and Bioethics at Panteion University and Director of the European Laboratory on Bioethics, Technoethics and Law
- Ioannis Pitas, Professor in the Department of Informatics at the University of Thessaloniki
- Timos Sellis, Director of the project “ARCHIMEDES“, a unit of the Research Center “Athena”
- Andreas Stavropoulos, Vice Chairman at Endeavor Greece & Partner at Threshold (formerly DFJ) Ventures – Member of HRADF
- John Tasioulas, Director of Oxford University’s Institute for Ethics in AI
- Charalambos Tsekeris, Vice Chair of National Commission for Bioethics & Technoethics
The Committee will develop guidelines for the long-term formulation of a national strategy for Artificial Intelligence, focusing on the areas of importance for Greece: economy and society, improving productivity, increasing innovation, strengthening infrastructure, managing the effects of the climate crisis, supporting human resources and social cohesion, creating quality jobs, defending national digital sovereignty and improving the operation of the State.
Finally, the Committee will aim to identify areas where Greece has a competitive advantage and can place itself at the forefront of the international debate on the use of AI and suggest ways to creatively combine the application of ethical and regulatory rules with the promotion of innovation, by the public and private sectors, and contribute national positions to the European debate on its regulatory framework AI.
