Οn the morning of January 16, 2024, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with the high level Advisory Committee for Artificial Intelligence at Maximos Mansion for the presentation of the study “Generative AI Greece 2030: The possible futures of Productive Artificial Intelligence in Greece“.
The study was presented to the Prime Minister by Dr. Vangelis Karkaletsis, Director at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Natural Sciences Research Center “Demokritos” and member of the high level Advisory Committee for Artificial Intelligence, the special secretary for Long-Term Planning Giannis Mastrogeorgiou, and the vice-president of the National Bioethics Committee and Technoethics and member of the Advisory Committee for Artificial Intelligence Charalambos Tsekeris.
The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Digital Governance Dimitris Papastergiou, the Minister of State Stavros Papastavrou, the Minister of State Akis Skertsos and the Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and government representative Pavlos Marinakis.
The aim of the study is to formulate a framework of strategic initiatives and policy recommendations regarding the impact of the domestic ecosystem of Productive Artificial Intelligence, with a time horizon of 2030.
The study was prepared in autumn 2023 by the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”, with the support of the Special Secretariat for Long-Term Planning. It is the first empirical research approach of strategic foresight for the use of Generative AI in Greece.
The initiative is in the context of highlighting AI as a national priority, as announced by the Prime Minister, on the occasion of the establishment of the Advisory Committee, which will also produce the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in the coming months.
