InfoCom World 2025 took place on 26 November at the Divani Caravel Hotel in Athens, bringing together industry leaders, researchers and policymakers to discuss the role of artificial intelligence, advanced connectivity and emerging digital infrastructures in shaping future markets and public services. The event highlighted ongoing developments in telecommunications, 5G, data-driven applications and AI-enabled innovation, offering a forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration across sectors.

The Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications participated in the conference with contributions from its researchers in two thematic areas:

  • In the panel session regarding “The first AI Greek Factory as a business model,” Stelios Karozis, Senior Researcher at NCSR Demokritos and Deputy Technical Coordinator of PHAROS AI Factory and other experts examined the establishment of Greece’s first AI Factory as a framework designed to accelerate the development and commercialisation of artificial intelligence solutions. The discussion focused on models for generating measurable value across sectors and the potential for scaling digital innovation within Greece and beyond.
  • At the Science Section, George Makropoulos, Researcher at IIT’s FRONT research group, presented the work titled “Multi-RAT Dual Connectivity Enabler: Bridging TN-NTN Networks for Ubiquitous Connectivity Beyond 5G,” as part of Session 2: Sustainable Federation of Research Infrastructures for Scaling-up Experimentation in 6G – A Modern pan-European Federation of 6G Test Infrastructures under the SUNRISE-6G project framework. The presentation addressed technical approaches to linking terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks within future 6G architectures, contributing to wider discussions on experimentation infrastructures and connectivity research in Europe.

IIT’s participation reflected the Institute’s continued engagement in national and European initiatives around next-generation networks, artificial intelligence and digital transformation.
