The Institute's Working Group for Equality and Inclusivity organises guest talk by Dr. Maria Skoularidou

On Thursday, April 25, 2024, our Institute’s working group for equality and inclusion organised an open discussion on disability, accessibility and workplace inclusiveness.

We were honored to have Dr. Maria Skoularidou, a Research Fellow at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and a founding member of {Dis}Ability in AI and Women in Data Science and Statistics at the Royal Statistical Society, as our special guest.

The discussion focused on the critical importance of addressing accessibility issues in today’s workplace. It explored the most common barriers experienced by individuals with disabilities and examined best practices for overcoming these challenges. The conversation also underscored the significance of implementing relevant codes of conduct in the contemporary work and research environments. Additionally, the participants centered on the pervasive biases related to gender, race, disability, and other factors within Artificial Intelligence and outlined effective strategies for combating discrimination and promoting equity and fairness.
