On Thursday 13 March 2025, Dr. Stasinos Konstantopoulos, Researcher at the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications represented the MANOLO project – met at NCSR Demokritos premises with the management board of a new Horizon Europe project, EXCELLEND, that kicked-off in February 2025. The Board consists of the Chairperson, Prof. George Tsatsaronis, and the project coordinator, Dr. George Kosmadakis.
The core aim of the MANOLO project is the development of trustworthy and efficient AI and among the various approaches pursued towards this aim, NCSRD explores how anomaly and event detection can be used to improve the quality of training data, while the main aim of EXCELLEND is to create a new team within a unique Centre of Excellence (CoE) and bring all the scattered energy-related activities of NCSRD under the same umbrella. The primary focus of EXCELLEND is sustainable energy solutions, aligned with relevant EU policy priorities, such as the European Green Deal. The CoE is led by Prof. George Tsatsaronis and seeks synergies with a variety of internal and external actors.
Building on the discussions during the meeting, the two projects explored opportunities for collaboration by combining AI computing with mechanical engineering to develop interdisciplinary approaches to energy systems. Follow-up meetings will be scheduled in the coming months to further define the foundation for collaboration and interaction.
