The Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications at NCSR Demokritos has achieved a new milestone in the 6G research domain. FRONT research group – head of which is Dr. Harilaos Koumaras – participated in the SUNRISE-6G (SUstainable federation of Research Infrastructures for Scaling-up Experimentation in 6G) which is the European 6G Flagship Infrastructure project.

SUNRISE-6G aspires to create a Pan-European federation of testbeds that will support converged Testing as a Service (TaaS) workflows and tools, a unified catalogue of 6G enablers publicly accessible by experimenters, and cross-domain vertical application onboarding.

FRONT Research Group is set to serve as one of the Testbed providers (Athens testbed). Furthermore, the group will take the lead in implementing the 6G Library, which will host the 6G enablers intended for integration into various facilities/testbeds.

The project’s kick-off meeting took place on 24t January 2024 at the Athenaeum InterContinental Hotel in Athens, Greece. Dr. Harilaos Koumaras and George Makropoulos represented FRONT research group during the meeting. This event marked the initial face-to-face gathering of representatives from the 29 partnering organisations in order to discuss the project’s planning and upcoming activities.
