VERCE (http://www.verce.eu ) developed a service-oriented e-Science platform to enable data analysis and modelling methods that exploit the increasing wealth of open data generated by the seismology scientific community. In doing so, VERCE integrated resources over distributed, heterogeneous infrastructures (Grid, HPC, Cloud, Departmental/Private) as well as it pioneered ways for researchers to describe and execute their scientific methods via reusable, transferrable, data-centric workflows. In this talk I will present an overview of the VERCE project, focusing on its achievements in supporting computational scientists and data engineers. I will also present pointers for future work in the hope that they will fuel useful discussion.
