Dr. Sfikas was born in Athens, Greece in 1982. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science, University of Ioannina, Greece in 2004 and 2007, respectively, and his Ph.D. degree in Image Processing and Computer Vision from the University of Strasbourg, France in 2012. He also holds a BA degree in History and Archaeology from the University of Ioannina. In 2014-2018, he worked as a Research Associate at the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos” in Athens, Greece. During 2016-2020 he has worked as a visiting lecturer at the University of Ioannina and in 2018-2020 as a Research Associate at the Information Technologies Institute of the Centre for Research and Technology – Hellas (CERTH) in Ioannina, Greece. Today he is working as a visiting lecturer at the University of West Attica and as a research associate at NCSR “Demokritos” and the University of Ioannina. His research interests include statistical image processing, computer vision, deep learning and applications in cultural heritage.
