Building on the momentum from their successful debut at the Athens Half Marathon earlier this year, a dedicated team of colleagues from the Institute of Informatics & Telecommunications (IIT) at NCSR Demokritos took part in the 42nd Athens Marathon – The Authentic, on Saturday and Sunday, 8-9 November 2025.
The event brought together 75,000 runners from around the world and 5,000 volunteers, and our Institute proudly joined the excitement with a strong team presence. This time, 24 colleagues participated across the different race categories — 8 in the 10km race, 3 in the full 42.195km marathon, and 13 in the 5km race — among them the newly appointed President of NCSRD, Dr Vangelis Karkaletsis.
Running through the historic route from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium, team members demonstrated not only endurance and determination but also a remarkable sense of team spirit.
Several colleagues achieved personal bests, while others took on their first long-distance race — all sharing in the joy of this truly inspiring experience.
